Order command on the Mac?

Hi Folks,

I'm working with a pivot table on a MAC and Control click a row field and
choose the Order command from the shortcut menu but the options are listed
but inactive. The same pivot table works fine on the PC. Any comments or
suggestions?

I know what you're up against. I like to joke that I have dual
citizenship, Mac and PC. ;)

I imagine you're probably trying to do one of two things:
1) Manually order your items in the Row Field of your PivotTable. If
that's the case, what you'll want to do is drag and drop the items.
The best way to do that is to put your cursor on the BOTTOM edge of the
cell, until you get the hand. Click and drag the item to where you
want it to be.
2) Sort the items in your PT. If that's the case, right-click (or
control-click, if you have just a single button mouse) on a row field
cell, and choose "Field Settings." Then, click on "Advanced," then
under "AutoSort Options," choose "Ascending" or "Descending." Just
like on the PC, you can sort on the row field itself, or on the data
field.

Fair question. I will have to defer to others on that one....I opened
all my available files with PivotTables, and I could not get a single
one of them to allow me to use the Order command. I know what you're
talking about.

If it's any consolation, I've run into one or two of these cases where
the functionality *seems* to be there, as it is on a PC, but it's never
available. I suspect this must be one of them.

Thanks for the response. Actually I know how to order items by manually
moving them, using the Data, Sort command, the Sort Ascending/Descending
toolbar buttons, and the Field Setting, Advanced area.

My problem is that on the PC there is an additional way to order fields.
For example, suppose I have 3 row fields State, Division, Dept in that order.
If I right click (PC) on the inner row field, Dept, and choose the command
Order, Move to Beginning will put the row fields in Dept, State, Division
order from left to right.

On the Mac, if I command click the Dept field and choose Order, the same
subcommands exist as on the PC but they are inactive (grayed out). So my
question is how does one use these on the Mac?
