Ordered Microsoft Suite Beta 2 Kit 2003 (expired)

William Hudson

Back in May of this year I purchased an IBM Thinkpad.
When I looked for a minimum of a Word Processor on the
hard drive I noticed that in the documentation that came
with the computer that I needed to call a toll free # to
receive a LotusNotes / Microsoft Suite CD. At the time I
was told that they could send a beta or non beta version
of the software but that the beta version was more up to
date. I ordered the beta version and as of November 30th
everytime I opened any of the programs on this beta
version I receive a pop-up window that tells me that the
beta version of this software has expired and that I need
to either upgrade this software or remove this software
through the Control Panel.

I was never told that this software would even expire.
What do I need to do now? I tryed to call MS on the
phone but noone seems to be able help me.

PLEASE EMAIL THE ANSWER TO ME AT (e-mail address removed)
SO I WILL NOT HAVE TO TRY TO LOCATE THIS MESSAGE BOARD
AGAIN AND THRY TO FIND THE REPLY.

THANK YOU;

Hi Bill,

In May Office XP(2002) was the current version of
MS Office (and was a retail product) while Office 2003
was a Beta (unfinished) product. Unless IBM was putting
there own CDs out for it, the MS Packaging stated the
expiration date of the Beta product.

You'll need to either contact the PC supplier (IBM)
or the retailer that sold the PC for issues with what
they provided, and/or purchase a copy of MS Office 2003
(released to retail in October). If you have a CD
for a copy of Office 97, Office 2000, Office XP or
MS Works you can purchase Office 2003-upgrade, otherwise
you'd need to purchase Office 2003-full package product
as neither IBM's Lotus Smartsuite or an Office 2003 beta
are not recognized by Office 2003-retail packages
as ungrade qualifiers.

To add to the answers already provided, you can also order a trial version
of the software from Microsoft while you are waiting to get this situation
straightened out.
