Ordering objects with org chart wizard

How to control the order of objects when using the org chart wizard. for
example, if a manager has 10 direct reports that the wizard generated
vertically under the manager, how to organize them (without rearranging the
diagram) according to a specific sequence? One sequence might be alphabetical
by first or last name.

In this case, the wizard is operating on a excel spreadsheet.

I don't think this is possible with Org Chart.

FYI - the outcome appears to be random. i can produce different charts from
teh wizard without changing the data, and - if i change the data order more
than once in excel - if get different results. go figure ...

I don't understand why this is not possibe. This is a major limitation of
using the functionality. At the moment everytime the chart is reimported it
randomly creates the order of my difrect reports. This makes the import
feature next to useless except for the first time. This realyl should be
addressed.

I agree, the Org Chart Wizard's randomness is an absurdity.

People make org charts to show relationships. In many cases the
"relationship" between peers is important, not just the
supervisor-subordinate relationship. It is a really weird that the ordering
of items is random. It should be alphabetical by some field, or at least in
order of the incoming data, whatever, as long as the user has some way to
determine the order.

Anyway, since this is not the case, what are some alternatives aside from
completely hand-building the org-chart, or hand-rearranging one produced by
the Wizard? I guess Visio in old versions could read tab-delimited files that
specified exactly where shapes should go, but I understand this ability was
removed in Visio 2003 and 2007. What's the easiest way to script the
behavior of Visio in creating a chart, without going into a full blown Visual
Basic situation?

MVP David Parker has been exploring ways to create Organization Charts using
Visio 2007 PivotDiagrams. PivotDiagrams can create a diagram from data and
refresh from data. Also they support a sort order for peers. However,
PivotDiagrams are not exposed via automation.

Our organization has Visio 2003 and approximately 3,000 associates. Org
Chart requests have become much more frequent lately. Is there any way to
import data into Visio 2003 and have some/any control as to who falls on what
charts so it is somewhat organized? Right now my import runs in successfully
but there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to how each page gets
organized or who falls where??? I would gladly manipulate/add columns to the
import file prior to importing via the Org Chart Wizard if it would help but
it sounds like from these posts that it would not???
Is there any way to import a large data file to create Org Charts in Visio
2003 and understand/control how it is organized?
If not, would updgrading to Visio 2007 give me this ability?

See my 7/30 reply to Organization Chart - LMMueller - 7/29, same newsgroup.
You can set each page up to specify the person at the top and the number of
levels to display. If you need to re-run the wizard on the same file, you
can modify just the page that has changed.

Do you know if this has proved possible? I'll upgrade to 2007 if I can auto
update org charts and add photos automatically!
