Hi David,
As Suzanne mentioned, using a tool designed for the task, especially with
what could be a rather complex genealogy /family tree structure, may be
preferable to using the limited org charting tools of Word 97. A number of
the 3rd party tools will let you insert or paste the finished chart into a
Word document if that is a need you have.
Basically, there were two tools for Word 97. MS Org Chart v2, a 'lite'
version of a 3rd party product for producing org charts, the MS version has
no capability for using graphics, although the parent version does,
http://orgplus.com.
The other tool is MS Draw. If the Word 97 version (an optional feature) is
installed you should be able to start a chart with active connectors using
Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing. If not, or for the final version, MS Draw 98,
you can download and install that version via the 'Draw98.exe' link in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/181154 That applet does support having
Word connect shapes, but its autoroute feature, basically lets Word decide
where to run the line routes in complex diagrams.
You can use Word's Drawing toolbar tools (View=>Toolbars=>Drawings) to
manually create a set of lines and boxes and you can insert a picture that
way, but you will do the connection and routing of the lines manually.
===============
I am using MS Word 97.
I want to draw an organizational chart -- boxes with lines as connectors.
However, instead of putting text in the boxes, I want to insert pictures.
Actually, I am trying to draw a family tree consisting of relationships and
photos.
Any help would be appreciated.
