Organize files in directories?

Is there a way to organize mpp files into a hierarchical structure on project
server, rather than having all files in a flat structure? The filters are
burdensome and I want to organize by directory.

Your Project Server administrator should create at least one custom
enterprise Project outline code for the purpose or organizing or
categorizing your projects. This outline code will allow you to group
projects in the Open from Microsoft Office Project Server dialog in
Microsoft Project Professional and in the Project Center views in Project
Web Access.

By the way, since you are new to Project Server, you need to know that files
stored in the Project Server database are not .mpp files. Any project
stored in the Project Server database is referred to as an enterprise
project. Projects stored as .mpp files are referred to as local projects or
non-enterprise projects. Hope this helps.

How do you set up a project to use this? What is your recommendation for
using this feature. Thanks!!

I can't answer your question with specifics as I do not know your company's
reporting requirements. As a general answer, however, your Project Server
administrator can create custom enterprise Project fields and outline codes
that describe your company's ways of organizing projects. For example,
he/she might need to create custom enterprise Project fields to report the
Region in which the project is worked or the person who is the Sponsor for
the project. He/she would need to create these custom enterprise Project
fields and outline codes in the Enterprise Global file. Hope this helps.

Dale,

How do you do this after having schedules already in the server? I need to
manually change my Enterprise Outline Code 1 value. But I can not seem to
find the location for this.

If you are the Project Server administrator, you probably need to open the
Enterprise Global using Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Global,
then click Tools - Customize - Fields to edit the Enterprise Outline Code1
information. If you have not done so already, you really need to rename
that outline code, as the name you have referenced won't mean anything to
anybody.

If you are a project manager, and need to set a value for an existing
project, you can simply click Project - Project Information to see your
organization's enterprise custom Project fields and outline codes. Hope
this helps.
