Organizing Project Plans

We have implemented project server 2003. Currently we have 20 Plans.
Out of the 20 plans
a) 10 plans belongs to 4 divisions (Information Technology, Research,
Products, and Field Operations)
b) 10 Plans belongs to different product groups (Project Management,
Program Management, BPR, Outsourcing, Six Sigma, Analytics, Modeling,
RFID, Mobile, and Internal)

Is there some way we can group these projects into 2 (folders or
Categories or views) so that the project managers will be able to click
on the top level and view the projects for that group.
in other words, can the project manager view the information in the
following format (tree structure similar to Windows Explorer view)
1) Divisional Plans
1a) Information Technology
1b) Research
1c) Products, and
1d)Field Operations
2) Major Products Plans
2a) Project Management
2b) Program Management
2c) BPR
2d) Outsourcing
2e) Six Sigma
2f) Analytics
2g) Modeling
2h) RFID
2i) Mobile
2j)Internal

If there is a better way of displaying the same information, please
suggest me.

Did you try using "Master Project" .This is done by creating a new MS project
file and then linking (go to Insert -> Project) various projects.

Hello Ratheesh,

I created the "Master Project" by linking tow projects through MS
Project Professional and then published the project.

I was unable to see the Master Project in the Project Center. The two
projects which I linked were seen in Project center.

The master project you created will server as a container to view all the
other projects and it is not a good idea to publish the master project.

More clarifications to my initial question

Is there any way to view the projects through Project Web Access when
the user are accessing project center to group these projects into 2
(folders or Categories or views) so that the project managers will be

1. Create an Enterprise Project Outline Code containing the list you
have included below (you will have to update the Enterprise Global to
do this). I will call the field "Plan Type" for this discussion.

2. Update the field for each project with the appropriate Plan Type
value. To do this open each project and update the field in the Project
Information dialog box or Edit the details of the Project using Project
Web Access.

3. Then create a new Project Center view that is grouped by Plan Type.

Thank you for your input.

It worked to an extent

I created the Enterprise Project Outline Codes and Now I am able to
group by in the Project Professional.

Now I have a follow up question


How do you add "Enterprise Project Outline Codes to views" so that
we can use Enterprise Project Outline Codes to filter, group, sorting,
and define Project Center views

Hi Sunny --

There is a set of functions within the Admin area of PWA which can be
used to manage / update the views which are available in PWA; if you
are not a Project Server Administrator, then you'll need to contact an
Administrator and ask them to help you with this.

It's relatively easy to add EPOCs (Enterprise Project Outline Codes) to
one or more PWA Project Center views; once an EPOC is added to a view,
you can use it to Filter, Group, etc. within that view.

If you are indeed a Project Server Administrator and you need help with
managing PWA views, let us know. In the future, please post your
