original date on

How can I keep the original date on my documents. Everytime I open the file
it automatically updates to the current date and I don't want that. I want
to keep the original date it was created on. I unchecked the box "update
update automatically" but it still updates everything.
Thanks for your help.

The "Update automatically" check box makes a difference only when you are
inserting a date from the Date and Time dialog. It determines whether Word
inserts the date as plain text or a DATE or TIME field. If you insert the
date using the Alt+Shift+D shortcut or using the button on the Header and
Footer toolbar, it is always inserted as a field.

To correct the current field, press Alt+F9 to display the field code, change
DATE or TIME to CREATEDATE, Alt+F9 to toggle back, and F9 to update the
field. For more on date fields, see
