os 9 update. need help please

Hello to all,
I am new to the Mac and have recently acquired a laptop with OS 9. I need
some advice on updating this system and would like to know if I just
download an update from the macintosh web site or if I have to purchase it.
If so, what am I supposed to download / purchase.

Hi Nancy-

It depends on several things.

Mac OS 9 has several versions, the latest of which is 9.2.2 if I
remember correctly. If the laptop is not yet updated to that, you can
download the updates from the Apple website:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/

If the LT has a G3 or later processor, you might prefer to upgrade to
OS X. That would not be free. There is info about it at:

http://www.apple.com/macosx/

BTW- your inquiry is one that doesn't pertain to MS Office, so it
