OS not configured to run Application

J

Jim Shaw

When I try to open MS Word or Excel I get the following message:
"The operating system is not presently configured to run this application"..

Now what do I do to fix this one!!

The office programs worked yesterday. Today I installed a new video driver
plus some updates that came as a result of my automatic update wizzard. I
didn't do anything else.

Jim (in a panic!)

Do a repair install of Office (have your media?) and see if it helps.
Don't ever update device drivers from Windows Update, if that's what you
did.

Well, I ran the "repair install" from the wizard. That did not fix the
problem.
I think we need to know how Windows needs to be configured for Office.
Thanks

Problem solved.
Something messed up the MS Word/Excel shortcuts on my desktop. During the
repair install, I checked the restore start menu also.

Now they work when I use the start menu, but they don't work when I use the
icons. Guess I'll replace the icons...

Put this in your bag of tricks folks!
Thanks for your help
