OST file corrupted

C

Corey Bryant

I archived my emails and then the next morning, my OST was corrupted. (My
folders that I had created were no longer there.) So I ran the scanost
against it. That did not fix it so I thought I would just re-create it.

Unfortunately, that helped somewhat. However, I now have two notes folders,
two contacts, two calendars, etc. One calendar has all my appointments in
it, but it won't update the server (or my blackberry). When I attempt to
invite someone , I get an error: Responses to this meeting request will not
be tallied because this meeting is not in your main Calendar folder. is this
OK (so I choose OK).

The other calendar folder will update my blackberry but when I attempt to do
a meeting I get:
outlook has detected the following:
-the location is not specified
do you want to send the meeting anyway?

I choose yes. My Blackberry gets updated and the user seems to get the
meeting.

Same with the contacts - two folders, but the empty one will update my
blackberry while the other will not.

I ran the scanost file again on the OST but nothing.

Using Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003

Thank you!

The ost-file is just a cache. Rename your ost-file to .old and restart
Outlook to have it recreated.

Roady [MVP]

Ah, overlooked the recreating part. You can take a look at your mailbox
through OWA to see if the folders are indeed duplicated. If so start Outlook
with the /resetfolders switch to reregister the correct folders again;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /resetfolders

If the empty ones are registered you'll have to move the contents from the
other folders to the new ones. After this you can delete the duplicate
folders and all should sync again.

it. the folders are still there (duplicated), etc.

When I right click on one folder in OWA - the one that supports the

Update, open in new, open, and New Folder

Also it seems that I can no longer send emails in my Blackberry either

All the delete functions is greyed out. CNTL-D would not work either. I
checked the permissions, and added my name since I was not added and chose to

Ah, overlooked the recreating part. You can take a look at your
mailbox
through OWA to see if the folders are indeed duplicated. If so
start
Outlook
with the /resetfolders switch to reregister the correct folders
again;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /resetfolders

If the empty ones are registered you'll have to move the contents
from
the
other folders to the new ones. After this you can delete the
duplicate
folders and all should sync again.

You might want to have your mailbox recreated then. Ask your Exchange admin
to export it by using exmerge and then drop the mailbox and recreate it.
Then you can connect to the pst-file in Outlook by File-> Open-> Outlook
Data File and move the items to the correct location.

We are actually moving to Exchange 2007 soon. I spoke to the owner of the
new company and he said that moving to 2007 will hopefully fix my problem.
He said he had the same issue because of a DST / security patch.

Fingers crossed that the upgrade will solve it. Thanks again!

yes, the files were in OWA as well... I shut down outlook and
ran
outlook
with the resetfolders - it re-downloaded a few messages but
that
was
about
it. the folders are still there (duplicated), etc.

Ah, overlooked the recreating part. You can take a look at
your
mailbox
through OWA to see if the folders are indeed duplicated. If
so
start
Outlook
with the /resetfolders switch to reregister the correct
folders
again;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /resetfolders

If the empty ones are registered you'll have to move the
contents
from
the
other folders to the new ones. After this you can delete the
duplicate
folders and all should sync again.

Do I just shut down outlook and do that? I mean since I
already
recreated
it
once I thought everything would be OK.

Thanks!

The ost-file is just a cache. Rename your ost-file to .old
and
restart
Outlook to have it recreated.

I archived my emails and then the next morning, my OST
was
corrupted.
(My
folders that I had created were no longer there.) So I
ran
the
scanost
against it. That did not fix it so I thought I would
just
re-create
it.

Unfortunately, that helped somewhat. However, I now
have
two
notes
folders,
two contacts, two calendars, etc. One calendar has all
my
appointments
in
it, but it won't update the server (or my blackberry).
When I
attempt
to
invite someone , I get an error: Responses to this
meeting
request
will
not
be tallied because this meeting is not in your main
Calendar
folder.
is
this
OK (so I choose OK).

The other calendar folder will update my blackberry but
when I
attempt
to
do
a meeting I get:
outlook has detected the following:
-the location is not specified
do you want to send the meeting anyway?

I choose yes. My Blackberry gets updated and the user
seems
to
get
the
meeting.

Same with the contacts - two folders, but the empty one
will
update
my
blackberry while the other will not.

I ran the scanost file again on the OST but nothing.

Using Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003

Thank you!
