OSX Preferences

I'm still getting used to OSX. Can someone please tell me where I find
the preferences for Word -- so when I backup, I am making sure I have
the right folder to backup (or synch with another computer)?

All the libraries in OSX have been a bit confusing.

Preferences are in the ~/Library/Preferences folder, where ~ is your
home directory.
