OT - Chat Rooms

I know this is completely OT, in the wrong NG, etc.

I want to set up a chat room so soldiers deployed to Iraq and
Afghanistan can stay in touch with their families and friends - not that
the reason for setting up a CR is important. But I need a program that
allows images to be attached, along with a way I can set up a moderator.

Do any of you host a chat room on your website? If so, what software do
you use?

Chat rooms are resource intensive.

I use a portal/forum type of thing...there are lots of them, and which you'd use would depend on what your server supports - PHP/MySql or ASP/Access/MsSql.

I use http://www.soopportal.ORG (*not* .com) its free, ASP/Access/MSsql, great support and has lots of skins, even has a chatroom module, gallery uploads, etc.
