OT. Word 2003 on PC task pane customization

I use Word 2004 on my Mac at home but it doesn't have the
capability that I am using on Word 2003 on the PC at work.

Does anyone know where I can find a reasonable description of how
the flippin' Customize selection is supposed to work in the
Formatting and Styles task Pane in Word 2003 for PC?

I have spent so much time trying to figure out how the dang thing
is SUPPOSED to work and all the I've come up with is the fact
that it (like many other features in Word) is completely and
totally unintuitive.

I would like to get some control over the large lists of styles
I'm using and I ASSUMED that I could do some of this by
customizing the task pane.

I've chaecked all over the web and the MVP site but I am either
missing it or no one else has tried to do this enough to discover
it don't work the way you would think :)

Hi Jeff:

Not easy, is it :) It's a VERY long discussion, which is not appropriate
in this group.

1) Turn OFF "Keep Track of Formatting"

2) In the Task Pane, set the list of styles to "Custom"

3) In Custom view, click "All Styles"

4) Choose the styles you want to display

When you're done, in Protect Document, choose "Limit formatting to a
selection of styles".

To quickly customise a style, get a paragraph the way you want it, then
select it. Make sure the paragraph mark, which contains the formatting, is
selected.

In the Task Pane, find the style, wait for the Disclosure Triangle to appear
and click it. Choose "Update to match selection".

There you go: those are the basics. Ask again in
m.p.word.formatting.longdocs and I will give you the whole of it when I get
there...

Cheers

Thanks for that. I wasn't sure which would be the best group to ping.
