Other people's reminders appearing

I have Outlook 2007. My manager has Outlook 2003. We share calendars
through a product called WorkgroupShare by Softalk Ltd. I am receiving
reminders from his calendar flashing intermittently on my screen and a lot of
them appear to be blank. They don't stay on the screen; they momentarily
flash then disappear. The appointments do not appear in my calendar; I
cannot even see them in his calendar. Softalk claim it is an Outlook 2007
problem. We were considering upgrading some of our users to Outlook 2007
this year (at the moment I am the only one using it) but we would still have
a mixture of 2007 & 2003. However if this problem cannot be rectified then
we cannot upgrade. Does anybody know of a solution to this; I don't want to
turn reminders off as I still want to see my reminders - I just don't want to
see his.

Why do you believe this is an Outlook issue and not an issue caused by
"WorkgroupShare"?

I don't - I'm looking for confirmation that it is, as when I have raised the
same issue with WorkgroupShare Support (as have other people) they say it is
an Outlook 2007 issue. I want to confirm which it is which is why I'm asking
the question in this forum, so that I can ascertain if anybody else has the
same problem with the same products and has found a solution.

I wish I could give you some pointers. Normally, one disables an add-in to
see if it's causing the problem, but since testing for the problem requires
using the add-in (since you can't share anything without it), I can't think of
a good way forward unless there is someone else who also uses that product and
has experience with it. I hope that if there is, they'll chime in.

Ask them exactly what the issue is that causes Outlook to flash someone
else's reminder on your screen.

I'm guessing it has something to due with how they share and how outlook
2007 triggers reminders- even so, its technically not outlook's problem as
it doesn't happen unless that program is installed.

Softalk's explanation is "As it is Outlook rather than us generating the
reminders we are somewhat limited in what we can do, WorkgroupShare just
creates folders of Outlook items through the Outlook API so the Outlook
reminder code etc is just going through these folders and looking at
appointments, and showing reminders as necessary so with WorkgroupShare the
best bet would be go to back and uncheck the reminder box after
synchronisation has happened."

I don't think their solution is practical as synchronisation happens every
20 minutes so I guess we just have to look for another product.

As an aside to this, can anyone explain how my post got copied to
slipstick.com, eggheadscafe.com, forum.codetwo.com and officekb.com (and
probably hundreds of others I don't know about). Do posts on this MS forum
automatically get copied elsewhere or is somebody picking them up and posting
them. It's rather annoying as when I did a google search I though I had
found others with the same problem as me, only to find they were my post.
Also if anyone posts an answer to these sites I won't see it as I only
monitor the MS one.

In reality you are actually posting to a public newsgroup through a web
based interface. You may find everything archived in google.groups
should you care to look. As to all those "other forums", well they
simply copy everything from the microsoft.public.outlook newsgroup so
they can add their advertising and make it look like they are providing
a "service".

That's about what I thought was happening... thanks.

This forum uses a web front end and syncs with an NNTP server at
msnews.microsoft.com - this makes it easy for people to ask questions as the
web interface is easy to use and requires no setup. NNTP is easier for those
who answer the questions as its faster and offers more features for
following threads. Other forums can 'suck' the NNTP feeds and automatically
republish the content - some of these forums are easier to use than the
Office communities interface. It does get annoying when you're trying to
check for problems and solutions though.
