other public news servers

I know this is not an Access question. But I have gotten so much advise
from the folks in here...

Does anyone know of any other news servers that are free with more general
discussion groups like money, economics, the stock market, television shows,
religion, movies, etc.? I have tried some searches on google, but was
unable to connect to most of the ones i found. I searched for "NNTP
discussion stocks" and similar searches. I found a few that were related to
colleges, but the discussions were very specific to those schools.

It's quite possible that your ISP provides its own news server with a
greater or lesser selection of groups from the full Usenet hierarchy.
Many ISPs do. Failing that, did you try googling for "free news
server"? Also, you can read and post directly using your web browser
via Google Groups -- http://groups.google.com -- though I personally
find it much easier and more efficient to use a news client program like
Outlook Express.
