Out of hours start and finish

I have a task with a "must start on" constraint of Monday
6pm and duration of 1 hour. There is one resource
assigned to the task. This resource has been assigned
the "24 hours" calendar. My project plan show the start
date of the task as Monday 6pm, but the finish date is
Tuesday 9am. What am I missing? Why is the finish date
not Monday 7pm?

Hi,

What version of Project are you using?

From about Project 2000 you could put a calendar onto the task as well
as the resource. It sounds like you may have a calendar set onto the
task which is conflicting with the one for the resource.

You will find the task calendar in the Advanced tab of the Task
Information sceen. I suggest you set it to none if a calendar is set.

Good Luck,

Mike

I'm using Project 2003. I don't have any calendar set on
the task. I am trying to effect out of hours start and
finish with the resource calendars because I have to
share my project plan with people who still have p98, and
the conversion process strips off task-based calendars.

Hi Maureen,

I have created a task using Project 2003 following your
comments below. When I assign a Must Start on constraint
for Monday at 6:00 pm and one hour duration, the original
finish date/time is Tuesday at 9:00 am.
When I assign a resource whose base calendar is 24-Hours,
the end time adjusts to Monday 7:00 pm.
I was also able to get at 7:00 pm end time without
resources by setting a duration of 1 eh (elapsed hour).

Not sure what the trouble is with your situation. I
would suggest removing the resource, double checking that
the resource's calendar has not been modified and try re-
assigning.
I don't know if this sheds light or not.

Thanks for your help Julie. I used ehr, and that let me
do what I needed. I still can't make it work by assigning
a resource with a calendar though, so I don't know what's
going on there.

You are very welcome Maureen. It is a puzzler about the
resource calendar though.
Glad to have helped.
