out of office not working

I am using exchange server and outlook 2000. Out of
office assistance does not sent an out of office message
to non-in-house recipients, so, not over the internet,
i.e. (e-mail address removed). Why? Please help.

Exchange is set by default to not reply or forward to the Internet. This is
a good thing as if you have never seen a mail loop bring Exchange to its
knees, enable both and then sit back and watch chaos ensue.

You can however change it. In Exchange 2000 or 2003 ESM, click on the
Global Settings, then Internet Mail Format. Right click on the default
folder and you can set replies and forward to the Internet from there.
