"Out of System Resources" when opening attachments from Outlook

About three months ago, I was no longer able to open attachments directly from Outlook. I get a message that I am "out of system resources" even if Outlook is the only program running. I have performed a Clean Sweep and a Defragmentation, but this did not help

I can save the files to a drive and open them from the drive without problem

Has anyone else had this experience and know of a fix?
