out of the blue Backspace wont delete highlighted sections

i am about to cry i am sooo frustrated!!! I always
highlight text and press the backspace button on my
keyboard to delete the highlighted area. I have been
using this feature since I began using a computer! Just
within the past few weeks, it doesnt work anymore in my
microsoft word 2002 (have even tried reinstalling back to
original settings). now when i highlight text and press
the backspace button it takes me to the beginning of the
highlighted text-every time. this only happens in
microsoft word. it works on every other program
(internet, outlook, this message board!!)

please help!! =(

Hi, Dawn,

Go to Tools > Options > Edit and check the box for "Typing replaces
selection".

what the heck!!! it was already checked off, so i
unchecked it, then checked it again, and now it works?!
ROAR! but now its fixed. yay! thank you SOOOOOO much for
your help.
