Outbound SMTP - server is Asian...

PWA 2007

I configured the outbound SP smtp to use myserver.mydomain.com in both the
operations and applications sections. Character set 65001.

I configured PWA to use the same server for alerts and messages.

I built a workflow to send email to me when a Task hits 50%.

No mail. Error log on the server event log shows an error - cannot connect
to smtp server <looks like Korean characters, but could be Japanese, Chinese,
or just random squiggles).

I changed the smtp settings to use the ip address.

Same error (not sure if the characters are the same)

??? Help ???

TIA for any suggestions.

Have you tried a manual test of the smtp server? Telnet to the mail
server on port 25 and try sending an email that way from the project
server.

(This should work for any SMTP server, windows or not.)

The telnet session can't connect to the server.

I'm guessing I'm either pointing to the wrong server or the server is not
accessible from my Project server (it's in our DMZ and I'll betcha that port
25 isn't open to our smpt server).

Time to get with the IT guys and figure the best way outta here.

Thanks for the troubleshooting tool - big help.
