Outbox empty but Outlook says sending 1 of 10

Althought the outbox is empty, Outlook status indicates sending 1 of 10 and
I am having problems with sending email. These 10 emails don't seem to be
sending, but I cannot see what they are. Anyone know the cause as well as
the solution. Any help gratefully received.
