Outbox won't send (not the same as "stuck")

I've been using Outlook 07 with Windows Vista for more than a year. Suddenly,
today, when I "Send" messages into the Outbox, and if I then open the Outbox
while they're still there, they all instantly go from being in italics to
being straight up -- i.e. as if they're still in draft -- and if I do a
Send/Receive, they just sit there.

If I then reopen each one, close the Outbox (e.g. go to the Inbox),
re-"Send" each one, and don't open the Outbox again, they go out as normal on
the next Send/Receive. But if i open the Outbox at all, they all instantly go
back from "italics" to "straight." (I can actually see them changing.)

This is not the same as people writing about items being "stuck" in their
mailbox. Any idea what's going on?

Thanks for reading this.

As far as I know, Outlook has always worked that way. If you open a message,
either by double clicking or using the preview pane, that is in the Outbox,
you need to then hit send again.

Did you recently enable the preview pane in the Outbox?

Sorry, my message was not quite clear. I'm not reopening the messages, just
clicking on the Outbox. So if there are, say, 6 messages that I've just
written and "Sent" and are sitting in the Outbox waiting for the next
Send/Receive ... and I click on the Outbox where the list is sitting there in
italics (e.g. just to remind myself what's in it), the whole list instantly
switches from being in italics to being in upright, and none of them are sent
out on the next Send/Receive. This has never happened before. It just
started happening yesterday.

To get them to go out now on a Send/Receive, i have to reopen them all,
click onto the Inbox (or other, just so the Outbox is not in view) and
re-Send them all, and be sure not to click on the Outbox before the next
Send/Receive.

This is a whole new (to me) and strange phenomenon. It's never happened
before. (And I've been using Outlook since forever.)

Ah, never thought of that. Yes, am using Nortons, and yes, i believe it's
scanning outgoing. Maybe it just changed one of its own settings. will check
it out this evening and confirm. Thx.

Ah, yes, all of them changing is a little different than what I understood.
The A/V is a good question, I'd also try starting up Outlook in Safe mode,
just to see if there's an add-in that might be messing with things.

Thanks for the suggestions. I also got a reply from Michael Bauer in the
thread above (I posted a sort of duplicate q by mistake.) He suggested
looking at any recent add-ins in the Options / Trust Center. And there it
was: the LinkedIn toolbar that I'd downloaded a few days ago. I've disabled
that, and the problem is solved.

Many thanks to all who offered suggestions. Much appreciated.
