Outgoing Mail Server connection issues

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: imap

I am synching my local Entourage client with an MS Exchange server using an IMAP account. The server requires SSL on both the incoming and outgoing mail servers; I must have encryption On to receive mail but am not able to send outgoing mail regardless of encryption setting in Entourage.

Turning off encryption on the outgoing server allows me to send mail on this account via Outlook 2007 on a WinVista machine. I have used Outlook 2007 to send and receive successfully on different networks with no outgoing mail encryption. But I am not able to send mail via Entourage on my Mac OSX 10.4.11 machine from this same account on my home network.

Any help is appreciated on this issue.

I am synching my local Entourage client with Gmail using a POP account. For
the past couple of years I have had no problems, then suddenly I can not send
mail via entourage. If i go into the GMail web page I can send with no
problems.

I really could do with some suggestions as I am not that clever when it
comes to problems like this. I don't know if the problem is with Google or
Entourage.

Are you responsible for the server itself? Do you have a reason for not
connecting as an Exchange account instead of IMAP? You have all the
tools necessary for getting more functionality out of your connection
than IMAP will provide.

What are your outgoing port numbers when SSL is enabled and disabled?
Typical ports would be:

Enabled = 587 (but can be 465 or something else)
Disabled = 25 (typical SMTP)

I do not have control of the server; it is run by an admin in a remote location. The admin has specific settings for connecting to the server, as:

- SSL on both incoming and outgoing servers
- override default IMPA port = 993 (not used)
- override default SMTP port = 25 (not used)

The incoming and outgoing mail servers are the same.

Interestingly, if I turn off SSL on the outgoing server using Win Outlook I can send mail from this account. Doing the same thing in Entourage has no effect.
