Outline Code Examples

I saw a recent posting from either David Gage or Gary Chefetz which
illustrated an interesting use of Outline Codes - the example was for
project status. The outline code lookup table includes Active, Archived,
Cancelled, etc.,

The suggested use had not occured to me, which on reflection was probably
because I was allowing myself to think "inside the box" when it came to
their application and potential benefits and was focused on the term Code
alone.

I would be interested to hear from newsgroup contributors how they are using
Outline Codes and what the benefits are of using codes at the task, resource
(excluding RBS and Skills) and enterprise level are.

Entreprise Outline code is very usefuls if you use Project
Server. One major interest is to create new dimensions in
the OLAP Analysis services.
Here are some example of waht we advise our customers to
use (aslo useful for standalone user to filter items):
PBS (Product Breakdown Structure) at the task level to
show to each product specialist the workload and the tasks
genrating the work.
OBS (Organisation Breakdown Structure) at the resource
level, to show each service and department contribution

Program (at the Project level) : to identify families of
projects

etc...

Outline Codes are very useful for creating alternate WBS Structures.
