outline format on word

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

when I am creating an outline in word and I hit enter it does not continue the outline and I have to go to format > bullets and numbering > outline all over again to continue the outline. how do I get word to continue my outline?! help would be appreciated!

on.
