OUTLINE FORMATTING GOES WILD

I am trying to write a simple outline. Every time I
indent a topic the formatting becomes 14 point bold
italic underline in a different font. I just want to
write a stupid outline completely in Times 12 point type,
no underline, no italic, no bold, and don't want to have
to overrule the formatting defaults (which are idiotic).
How can I just have one font for the complete outline and
keep the program from changing it when I change levels?
