Outline Numbering Adds Unwanted Numbers

I have been adding outline numbering to selected paragraphs in a table. I
have been using the indent text tool bar button to change from a "1)" to an
"a)". Suddenly everytime I choose to add numbering to selected text, numbers
get added to every row of text in the entire document. I can "Undo" and all
the numbers disappear except for the one that I want. My 500K document grew
into a 6 meg document. I saved to .RTF and brought back to .DOC and still
have the issue.

What am I doing wrong? How can I correct this issue?
