outline numbering changing

I

ian s

Hello,

I have created 2 styles to achieve the following effect:

1. parah heading (level 1, bold 11 arial)
1.1 parah text (level 2, bold 11 times new roman)
1.2 parah text

The styles are linked to each other as level 1 and 2 and
work fine in the document ie automatically re-number eg.:

30. parah heading
30.1 parah text
30.2 parah text

However if I do the following to the parah text style:
modify
format
numbering
customise
(make no changes)
OK
OK

the numbering for the parah heading style disappears ie
for the 30. example above it changes to:

parah heading
1.75 parah text (75th instance of parah text)

Please help

Thanks

Thanks for the help,
I set up the styles the way syggested on the Shauna Kelly
site (nice clear instructions), however the problem is
persisting ie the numbering disappears for the level 1
style if I do the following:

put my cursor on the level 2 style
format
style
modify
format
numbering (outline number tab, don't change the
highlighted option)
customise
(make no changes)
OK
OK
APPLY

They are based on
Any ideas

Hi Ian
put my cursor on the level 2 style
This is where you're going wrong. As Margaret said, you have to put your
cursor in the level 1 style. Then Format > Style > Modify > Format >
Numbering > Outline Numbering tab > Customize. Now, to deal with the
level 2 numbering, in the Level box, choose 2.

I know it sounds barmy to go to a Level 1 style in order to change the
Level 2 numbering. But that's just the way it is.

Hope this helps.

Ian,

I'm wondering why you are going in there, if you're making no changes.
