Outline Numbering in a Table

B

Brian Smith

I have a table with close to 100 rows where I want to number the contents of
the cells in the left column. There is the equivalent of one paragraph of
text in each cell of this column. I would like to achieve something like
this.

1.1 Cell one text
1.2 Cell two text
1.3 Cell three text
..
..
..
1.14 Cell 14 text
2.1 Cell 15 text

etc.

Is there a way of doing this without resetting the numbering options for
each cell which would essentially make doing it manually faster?

I'm using Word 2003 (SP3) under XP Pro.

Thanks.

What prompts the change from 1.14 to 2.1 rather than 1.15. Is it every 15th
row that you want to restart the numbering from 1 or something else.

The changes from 1.x to 2.x, etc. are determined by the contents of the
table. I realize at those points I'll have to manually adjust settings but
I'd like to know if it's possible to do what I want just in case I have to
reorder rows within a section of the table. Would prefer to have this done
automatically if at all possible!

Thanks.

Check into the use a SEQ field

The criteria for the change from 1.x to 2.x probably rules out the use of
the second level of Legal numbered style paragraphs, which would require the
use a first level style to cause the change.
