Outline numbering without level1 number

E

ep

I have a document where I need to have the different "sections" numbered
1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc. However, I want those to use the same "style" and
have tried to "link" to a HEADER that has no number shown. I have tried the
different tutorial/help sites but think this is something that is only me.

If you are confused, think about me!?!?!

Thanks

Have you tried the first site listed below and followed the directions
there?

How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in your Word document
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html.

If, after you have read and tried the instructions in Shauna Kelly's article
you have specific questions write back with them. Please try to express
exactly what it is you are trying to do and what is happening. If that
doesn't do it, all the advice you would get here is contained in the links
below.

Yes, I read that however that is not quite what I need. The following
example is what I need.

HEADER
1.1 Heading1
1.2 Heading1

HEADER
2.1 Heading1
2.2 Heading1

I need a HEADER that is NOT numbered but the Heading1 under it will
increment properly. Any suggestions???

Piece of cake. Select the second pane in the bottom row of the Outline
Numbered list gallery (the one that shows 1 Heading 1, 1.1 Heading 2, 1.1.1
Heading 3), and click Customize... Expand the dialog and select "Nothing"
for "Follow number with" for Heading 1, then click Font... and check the box
for Hidden. Heading 1 (the one you have called HEADER) will be invisibly
numbered, Heading 2 (the one you currently are using Heading 1 for) will
pick up the numbering, and so on.
