Outline Numbering

Any tips on outline numbering - 1.1, 1.1.1 etc. would be great. I have been
suffereing for months and have read MVP & Web stuff up the wazoo. Any good
tips out there???

I would love to find out how to make a good template and keep it safe from
people.
