Outline Numbering

I'm working on a template in Word 2000, and I am
attempting to set my outline numbering for each section of
the document.

What I would like to do is allow for the outline numbering
to do the following:

1.1 - Heading 2
1.1.1 - Heading 3
2.1 - Heading 2
2.1.1 - Heading 3
3.1 - Heading 2
3.1.1 - Heading 3
(etc.)

Is the above setting possible. For the attributes that I
have set for Heading 1, I do not want it to reveal
the "2." outline number. What I need is for the document
to display the above setting, as well as translate for
when I start a new section. Thanks in advance for your
assistance.

What I have done is create Heading 1 to be the "2."
format and insert it before 2.1, then marking it as
Hidden Text. Of course you have to do it before each new
number. It's inelegant, but it accomplishes the desired
result.

To avoid the extra hidden style, you can set the font of the number for
Heading 1 to 'Hidden'. (Font button in the Customize dialog while you are
setting up the numbering scheme.)

I read it as doing the hiding on the paragraph itself, rather than in the
style definition of the number font - but I'm as likely wrong as not :)
