Outline template in Word 2003

I have a user that uses the outline feature in Word 2003. He goes to Format ,
bullets and Numbering then chooses Outlined Numbered. He then chooses the 2nd
style which is 1) and then when you return it make 2) but if you tab it
changes the 2 to a lower case a

This doesn't work anymore. I have tried the repair for office and actually
uninstalled Office 2003 and re-installed. I still won't work. Any suggestions
or answers to this problem?

I am using Word 2007 now so I am trying to remember where to find this
setting. I believe it is under Tools, Autocorrect Options. What you need is
the Autocorrect Options dialog box, click on AutoFormat As You type tab then
under Automatically as you type verify that Set left and first indent with
tabs and backspaces is checked. If you are using Word 2007, click Office
button, Word Options, Proofing and click on AutoCorrect Options. Hope this
