Outline toolbar disappears, reappears... continuously

Word 2004 Mac: In outline mode: Outline toolbar disappears, document page
size readjusts, then toolbar reappears, page document window readjusts...
keeps repeating this process...any thoughts what is going on here?

Hi Jake,

Frankly, no . But reproducible problems like this in Word usually
respond to one of the standard troubleshooting measures, which you will find
listed here:

<http://word.mvps.org/mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html>

The most common culprit is a corrupted Normal template or damaged
Preferences file but it could be one of the other issues listed.

Is this "ALL" documents or "one" document?

Either way, my first thought is a macro problem of some kind (potentially: a
virus).

Have you run a Virus scan?

It may be a corrupt document, but I have not seen a corrupt document produce
this indication.

It may be a haxie: have you installed anything recently?
