is there a way to convert an outline to a multile level bullet list
and vices a versa?

Well, you can modify an outline list to use bullet formatting instead of
numbering, if that is what you are asking. Just change the formatting, level
by level, in the Customize Outline Numbered List dialog box (Word 97-2003)
or in the multilevel list dialog box (Word 2007). See

Thnaks But I actually needed to incorporate multiple outlines (with
new numberings sequences) into a secone documnet as a number list.
Since the list may be changed at a later date I do not want to hard
code the numbers in the second document by cutting and pasting as text

This seems to be a different task compared to your original message?

Assuming that I now correctly understand what you are trying to do, I would
suggest setting up each outline-numbered list using a unique set of styles;
that way, you can paste paragraphs between documents and still preserve the
number formatting.
