Outllook 2007 v Outlook Express

I have been using outlook in its various versions for years at home and
without problem.
Recently each time I open outlook I cannot connect to the IMAP server and I
cannot find a reason or fix for this. If I configure the same email accounts
in Outlook express everything works fine. Why does this happen?
Heres what I know so far...

Windows XP SP2
No changes made at hosts end
Event viewer does not show a 4226 error log for maximum number of tcp
connections.
No changes have been made on my local machine
This happens pon my laptop and desktop but not on my iphone (weird)
When I open outlook I get an error cannot connect to server. Sometimes if I
force the connection using file->connect to... it will not connect.
This started happening for no reason some weeks ago.
I have ran the office repair cd and also uninstalled and installed outlook
but nothing has changed.
Can anyone help...this is driving me nuts.

Verify your firewall settings and make sure it is not blocking Outlook.
Additionally if you use a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook,
disable this integration and try again.

Thanks Roady.

I checked those settings on all machines and they are done the way you
stated./ Also made sure ports 25 and 143 are open. ON one machine I shut down
McAfee firewall and anti-virus as well as making sure windows firewall is
off. Do you have anymore thougts. What is the main difference between
Outlook and O/Express for this connection problem to be happening?

I did go with another profile, I readthat in one of hyour other replies to
soeone else.
The problem seems to start when I add more than one email address. In the
past Ihad 6 email addresses and it all worked without any problem. Now it
only works with one email and not 100%...any other thought?

What do you mean? You connect to multiple IMAP accounts?
Are these accounts located on the same server?
Does it get stuck with one specific account or when adding more than one
account irrespective of which account you start with?

Sorry about the lateness ofthis reply, still getting headaches.
I have a domain that I use for email and some time ago I could o[en outlook
and have seperate imap folders set up for each mail acount. I could click on
each mailbix and see the mail coing to the individual mailbixes without any
problem. No server changes and/or machine settings have changed. Then without
warning I cnanot connect to the server. If I delete all but one of the
accounts, it does not matter which one the problemgoes away. I noticed that
there were multiple old pst files which I cleaned up but I still get the same
problem. Its driving me nuts in that this thing would work perfectly and then
without warning it stopped.

I just bought an Iphone. I have outlook 2002. I know I must upgrade but to
what? Can I just go to 2003, if so where can I buy it. Do I need to buy
2007, if so how many problems will that create for me?

:

Outlook and Outlook Express are two completely different programs despite
their similar name ;-)

Does it work for you when you create a new (additional) mail profile and
start Outlook with that profile?
See http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm

Some stores should still have OL 2003 for sale, but you can certainly find
it online or on eBay.
