Outlook 2000 - CN Certificate Error Message

Hello,

I have sbc yahoo as my isp, but today set up Outlook for my mail.

It seems to be partially working, however, I continually get this Internet
Security Warning message when sending messages:

"The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could
not be verified.

The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value.

Do you want to continue using this server?"

I have continued to select "yes", however, I am not sure what needs to be
done to correct this, or if I possibly set up Outlook incorrectly. It seems
that I have to click on "send/receive" each time to send a message.

Any help would be appreciated.....I've been trying to correct this for hours
and am very frustrated.

Thanks.

If you have a POP3 email account, check for the SSL connection option on the
account property dialog.

Hi James,

I do have a POP3 account, and Yahoo sent instructions to change the SMTP
port to 465 and to change the POP3 port to 995, but I keep getting the
Internet warning message.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi Chitkat, are you sure you've cleared the This server requires security
connection check box on the Advanced Tab on the property dialog box of your
POP3 account?

This error is caused by an incompatibility in your Outlook
configuration.

When you created an "Account," and you selected IMAP (or POP3), you
must set the "Incoming server" correctly: imap.gmail.com (or
pop.gmail.com).

Google apparently uses two different certificates, one appropriate to
IMAP, the other to POP3; I suspect ti determines which to use based on
the PROTOCOL, not the server connection. Therefore, when the
certificate says it's for "imap.gmail.com" you better be set to use
that server; if it reads "smtp.gmail.com," you'll see this message.

There may, of course, be other reasons, but this one fixed the problem
for me.
