Outlook 2000 Contacts - Illegal operation, shot down

L

Len De Rossi

After restoring the disk of my eTower 500is (eMachine) PC with Windows 98,
and re-install the security updates for IE(6.0.2800.1107 SP1; Q818529;
Q330994; q313829) and Office 2000 (SP-3 9.0.0.6627), I have problems
handling the Contacts (shared with the Address Book) in Outlook.

I have no problem accessing these records with the Address Book application.
When I open any of the Contacts records with Outlook, the [Save+Close]
button is shown duplicated (one next to the other) on the standard toolbar,
and the application prevents any corrective action.

It lets me open the Contacts, scan over different views, sort and open
individual records with no apparent problem, but if I either try to save or
exit, the application crashes, with the following message: "This program has
performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". The following
detailed explanation is given:

OUTLOOK executed an invalid instruction in module
<unknown> at 0000:01204a66.

I was not able to find an answer within the Knowledge Base Search. I tried
to uninstall and re-install the application, to no avail.

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried repairing your PST file with the Inbox Repair Tool since your
crash?

No similar issues reported.
Have you seen any error mesages that are more specific when you crash?
