outlook 2000 crashing

I searched for hours for the answer and got lots of questions very similar
but no answers.
Outlook 2000 has been working fine for years. I have changed nothing that I
know of and all of a sudden it has started coming up with the "outlook has
encountered a problem" page. If I send a report or not then outlook closes.
But if I ignore the page and move it to the side then outlook continued to
work as normal.
This usually happens within about 4 minutes of opening and does not seem to
make a difference what other programs are running. I tried opening in safe
mode but it still happened. I tried detect and repair but no joy. I tried
system restore back to a point before it happened but no joy.
I am on XP SP3 and, as far as I know, have all updates.

Run a search, in explorer, to include hidden files for, *.pst
what are the files sizes/names for the pst's it finds?

The file is not as big as on my other computer which has no problems.

245MB

I will try archiving some stuff and see what happens.

BTW - I got an email to say there was a reply but the link went to a blank
page.

The reply went in twice because it crashed while posting so I thought it had
not gone in and posted again - SORRY

Anyway - I archived but it only went down to 242MB and has made no
difference. It still comes up with the error message after about 4mins but
works if I don't send the 'report'.

I know this is an old program but I can't afford to upgrade at the moment.

Try doing a file/folder search instead. Use the Advanced feature to include
hidden files & folders.

Sorry - search for what? scanpst? If so then it doesn't exist on my system.

Surely I can't be the first and only person to have had this problem with a
MS program.

If I can't get it resolved is there any problem with me just ignoring the
"send a report" page? You can't minimise it so it is just moved right to the
top corner where it doesn't get in the way and Outlook seems to be working as
normal. I back it up every day so wouldn't' lose much if there was a problem.

Start>Search..........if Windows Search opens, on the bottom left 'Click
here to use Search Companion' then in new window, 'all files and folders'
All or part of the file name, enter scanpst.exe
then, 'More Advanced Options' ....'tick system folders' & 'hidden files and
folders'
Then search Btn

DL - I know how to search - I am not a complete numpty.

As I said in my last post - the search did not come up with anything.

scanpst.exe is located in a hidden folder which is why it was suggested you
include hidden files/folders in your search.

You didn't mention what O/S you are using so I can't tell you exactly where.

I had said I was on Win XP and that I had included hidden folders in the
search. I have my explorer set up to see hidden folders and files anyway.

All searches have found nothing for this file name.

What exactly would this programe tell me if I could find it?

The reply from DL was not exactly helpful - what does "Bye" mean - is it
that the subject is too far above his head :)

Do you get that sort of thing on this forum often? Should I take it
personally or is he always like that?
