My husband has been using Outlook 2000. Today when he turned on his computer
and clicked the Outlook icon, a window was displayed asking him to enter the
Outlook 2003 installation "Product Key" as if he were installing a new
Microsoft Outlook 2003 program. Not knowing what was going on (he had not
installed any new software), he tried to open Outlook from Start/All
programs/Microsoft Outlook. The program was there and opened, however when
he went to read the new messages they were displayed in what looked like
"source code" with the HTML commands and symbols, and the message itself was
nowhere to be found. We tested it further by sending him e-mail messages
from my computer, but all the messages were the same -- illegible. After
reading and researching, we determined that the Outlook data would be found
in a "Outlook.pst" file, which we found. He then tried to import the
"Messages" into Outlook Express using the but got an error message "Messages
could not be imported from the MAPI client". When trying to import Address
Book, it asked for a .wab file which he could not find. My question is: Is
there a way that my husband can recover the contacts and messages from
Outlook 2000? He is willing to use either Outlook Express or Windows Live
Mail. Thank you for any help anyone can give us.
