Outlook 2000 does not open

Hi everyone,

I am running Win XP with all updates and Office 2000 with all updates.
Outlook is connected to Exchange 2003 on SBS 2003.

Today for the first time Outlook will not open. When you open it comes up
this this error: AppVer: 9.0.0.6604 ModName: outllib.dll

I have tried deleting the extend.dat and replacing the outllib.dll file but
it didn't work. I have created a new user profile too.

I have done a full reinstall of office but still no luck.

I can start Outlook in safe mode.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

If you can start Outlook in safe mode it's likely the culprit is one of your
Add Ins. Disable them all and add them back slowly, testing inbetween to see
which one has caused the problem.

Is the Exchange mailbox the primary destination for mail or do you have it
going straight to a PST?

Exchange is the primary destination and all the other users also using
Outlook 2000 are fine. I have also restarted the Exchange Server too.

If everyone else is working fine but you there would be no need to restart
the server. At most, I would have stopped and restarted the Exchange services
but even that would be a long shot.

Have you tried logging into another PC and creating your profile there to
see if it works? Determine if the problem follows you or is local to the PC
you're normally on.

Yes I have. I can open outlook with my profile on other computers. The issue
is on the local machine.

I guess what I need to know is how to remove outlook clean from the pc and
reinstall it again.

Having worked as a Network Admin in an Exchange environment for over 10
years, I have never had to uninstall Outlook.

Under normal circumstances, renaming certain files while Outlook is closed
or performing other tasks works. Renaming files such as outcmd.dat,
extend.dat, the .srs file, views.dat, and frmcache.dat often helps. Checking
Add Ins and COMs to see what integrates with Outlook is an excellent
troubleshooting step since they can often cause problems (such as antivirus,
antispyware, Plaxo, etc.)

Worst case scenario, deleting the Outlook profile, restarting the PC, then
recreating it usually does the trick.

Once I had to delete the NTuser.dat file and restart the PC and recreat the
entire user's profile. If there are multiple issues on the PC, I have found
it much easier and faster to reimage than spend my valuable time trying to
figure out the problem and resolve it.

Thanks. I will try to delete all the dat files as you suggested and see if
this helps.

I have already disabled all the ad-ons and have deleted the old profile and
created a new one, but no luck with it.

Will let you know how it goes.

Hi Kathleen. It seem it is all working now after deleting the extend.dat
file, which is very strange because this was the first thing I did.

Anyway. Thank you so much for helping me with this.
