Outlook 2000 empties deleted items folder on startup

Strangest thing . . . Someone deletes mail from her mailbox and they sit in
her deleted items folder. Maybe like 10 or 20 items. She told me they
disappear when she starts Outlook. I exit and logoff and get back into
Outlook. All the msgs are in the deleted items folder. She says it only
happens on reboot. OK, I reboot. I fire up Outlook and sure enough, I
highlight the Deleted items folder and see them all disappear!

Anybody know what that's about?

Outlook 2000 on WinXP
Exchange server
no rules to empty del items
no autoarchiving setup

Thanks!

Check for the setting to empty Deleted Items folder on exit. In 2003 it's
here: Tools>options>Other.

Thanks Mary, but they don't delete when I exit. They delete when you 'start'
Outlook. I know, it sounds crazy, but I actually saw the e-mail in the
deleted items folder when I closed Outlook and I saw them when I rebooted and
fired up Outlook again, and then I saw them disappear in front of my eyes!

Incidentally, I did check the "empty Deleted Items folder on exit", closed
Outlook, and then unchecked it like when I first started troubleshooting this
issue.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!
