Outlook 2000 frozen at opening and won't open

This morning, I had just opened Outlook and it was downloading emails. At the
same time, I had a couple of Explorer windows open and was surfing the web.
My computer then crashed. I have 256K RAM so maybe not enough memory? Anyway,
upon rebooting, my computer checked for errors as it always does after a
crash. This time, however, it found files with errors and had to truncate
them. I didn't pay attention to which files were truncated. Then, when I
tried to open Outlook, it wouldn't open. I can get the Outlook logo screen to
appear, but it simply freezes there and doesn't actually open into the
program. Doesn't matter how long I wait. I tried doing a system restore to a
prior point but it didn't help. I still cannot open Outlook. Any suggestions?

Roady's tip on the web page
(www.howto-outlook.com/faq/outlookdoesntstart.htm) and changing the
outcmd.dat file name worked for me too - for which heartfelt thanks - but
slightly frustrated with Microsoft Outlook at how incredibly long it took me
to find these replies and solve the problem - there must be a better way of
helping lost sheep solve such a common problem - luckily it's a wet weekend

Good to hear things are working correctly for you now.

Outlook holds quite a few startup switches for troubleshooting. Actually
most of them are for troubleshooting. You can find them here;
