Outlook 2000 messages sent but stay in Outbox

I have Outlook 2000 and until yesterday all went fine. Then messages stuck in
the Outbox. I found out that they had actually been sent, but the message is
not being moved to the Sent Items folder. I have the proper settings (double
checked them) and applied all available patched and service packs.
Any ideas what is causing this?

Do you have an AV program integrated with Outlook and did that AV program
update itself yesterday?

No, I have no integration with other applications with Outlook.
I have called the people I e-mailed to, then deleted the entries from the
Outbox. Changed settings (removed the flag from "Save copies of messages in
Sent Items folder" and then set the flag again - each time after change I
closed Outlook), then it worked for the first mail, then started doing the
same thing. During the afternoon I had nine e-mails that were removed from
the Outbox correctly - and I had about 30 sent mails that stayed in the
Outbox...

Start Outlook in safe mode and see if it still happens.

Hi Mary, I had deleted them - although worked online. Yesterday sometime
midday it was working well for about a couple of hours - nothing was changed
manually before this happened...
If I change the setting not to move items to Sent Items after sending them
and then turn the flag on again, it would work properly for the first e-mail
I send out and them starts doing the same thing again.

It was doing the same thing.
I think it may be caused by the large number of mails in the Sent Items
folder. I have started to get rid of some of the old mails hoping it would
help.

COuld be. If the Sent Items folder gets very full, messages stop going out.

It turned out to be the size of the mailbox. After I sent a few more e-mails,
it did not even open. I used the Outlook Inbox Repair Tool, then cut off
about 100MB from the end of the file to recover the data.
I then upgraded Outlook to Outlook 2003 and imported some of the mails I
needed.
Now it is back to normal...
