When I click on my Outlook Shortcut on my desktop, or through my programs
menu, I get an hourglass for about 5 seconds, then nothing. Outlook won't
open--it was just fine this morning! Please help...

Please provide the following information:

1) Version of Outlook - you may disregard this one
2) Email environment: Exchange, POP3, etc.
3) Does you have a PST? If so, what is the size?
4) Are there any error messages/numbers?
5) Have you checked the application event viewer for any Outlook or
Office-related errors? If there are, what are the Event ID number(s) &
source(s)?
6) What troubleshooting steps have you taken yourself, so you're not told to
take steps you've already tried?
7) Is the antivirus scanning incoming/outgoing mail?
8) What is the polling frequency for mail?
9) Are there any COMs, Add Ins, synch software (for handheld), Fax software
running?
10) Have you checked the configuration of your account in the Control Panel?
11) What changed between the last time it worked and the time it stopped
working?

Please provide the following information:

1) Version of Outlook - you may disregard this one
2) Email environment: Exchange, POP3, etc.--POP3
3) Does you have a PST? If so, what is the size?--I have 2 Outlook Archives that are 336MB, and 2 Outlook pst's that are 52.6. It looks like they are duplicates of the same of each, but they are all in the same folder.
4) Are there any error messages/numbers?--I left the computer on all night, and this morning there was a message saying that outlook.exe was not responding. I chose to end the program. Last night when this was happening, there were no error messages at all.
5) Have you checked the application event viewer for any Outlook or
Office-related errors? If there are, what are the Event ID number(s) &
source(s)?--I don't know how to do this, or where this is located.
6) What troubleshooting steps have you taken yourself, so you're not told to
take steps you've already tried?--I tried starting Outlook in safe mode (Run "outlook.exe /safe") and it did the same thing--hourglass, then nothing. This was last night. I also re-booted the computer several times with no result.
This morning I rebotted the whole computer into safe mode after the
"outlook.exe not responding" message. I was able to successfully open
Outlook in safe mode, then I rebotted into regular mode and everthing seems
to be working fine now. My concern is that I want to prevent this from
happeneing again.
7) Is the antivirus scanning incoming/outgoing mail? --Yes, as far as I know it is. I am using the cox security suite through my cable provider.
8) What is the polling frequency for mail?--I do not know how to check this.
9) Are there any COMs, Add Ins, synch software (for handheld), Fax software
running? --When I opened the task manager, it did not have anything else running showing there. Should I have looked elsewhere?
