Outlook 2000 - Organize - Out of memory ... error

Outlook 2000 has been working fine, most of the time, for several years.
A few days ago I experienced the following problem.

After opening Outlook I clicked on 'Organize' and scrolled down the 'Move
message selected below to ...' to 'others'
I click on 'others' and received the following error message, 'Out of memory
or system resources. Close some windows or programs and try again'.
I closed the error window.
Outlook froze and had to be closed via Windows Task Manager.

It is only when clicking on 'others' that Outlook reports an error. Other
options are ok.

There are no add-ins listed and the PC has plenty of spare memory and disk
space etc.,

After looking through several posts regarding this error message I couldn't
find one relevant to my particular experience.

Has anyone any suggestions about what might be causing this? Or how to
analysie the problem?

Any response would be gratefully appreciated.

there are only so any Organize rules you can make before running out of
space. I think you've run out of space for rules.

Thank you Judy,
Is there a known figure for the maximum number of rules we can have?

I looked at my list of rules and deleted about a third of them but I still
have the same problem so think the answer must lie elsewhere.

Thanks again.
