Outlook 2000 problems after installing card scanner

Does anyone know of any known issues with Outlook 2000 after installing a
business card scanner? I have a user that has been getting the "Outlook.exe
has generated errors..." message and more recently "The operation failed"
when trying to send mail. I just wondered if this was somehow related to that
card scanner. I have repaired Office and uninstalled/reinstalled. We are
running Outlook through Exchange.
