Outlook 2000 pst file corrupt from importing Outlook 2003 pst file

I am running Outlook 2000 and made the mistake of trying to import an Outlook
2003 pst file into my personal folder. Got the about half way thru the import
process and I got an error msg that the file is corrupt and it will no longer
open. I ran the scanpst.exe. It takes a couple of hours to scan but when 99
PCT complete it failed and posted an error log. I need the data out of this
file desperately. Is there any solution?

Outlook 2003 and later can create a PST file that isn't compatible with
older versions. An easy way to see if this is the case is try and open the
PST file directly in Outlook 2000 via File > Open > Outlook data file. I
believe Outlook 2000 will throw an error message if this is the case.

If my hunch is right, do you have access to Outlook 2003/2007 where someone
can move the items into a legacy PST file for you?

Neo, Opened Outlook. Went to File , Open, but did not have the option to
select Outlook data file. I tried opening the Ootlook.pst file but it
displayed an error and advised to use the inbox repair facility. That was the
2 hour process I mentioned before and it bombed out at the very end.
Unfortunately I don't have anyone with Outlook 2003 to see if it will open.
If I were sure that Office 2003 was the solution, I would purchase a copy on
Ebay.

By the way the Outlook.pst file is 2.06 gig.

Do not import. Click File>Open>Personal Folders File, browse to the PST,
select it, and click OK.

I don't think it is because he wouldn't have been able to even begin to import
a Unicode PST. He'd have received an error immediately, that error stating
the incompatibility of the PST.

Diane, you were right on the money. From the Slipstick website I followed
their link to Microsoft and downloaded the PST2GB truncation file. I had the
program truncate the 2.06 Gig file to about 1.8 (initially I tried 1.9 and it
still did not work) and then after running Scanpst.exe I was able to recover
a good portion of the old pst file. The contacts and calendar were still
messed up but most of the emails ere still there.

I initially searched the MS website for PST file help and got nothing. I am
happy Slipstick had the link.

Thanks
Barry

How big are both pst? Outlook 2000 is limited to just shy of 2GB file size.
if this is the problem, see

Brian, thanks for our support. I was able to truncate the file with the help
of Slipstick website link that Diane provided and was able to recover most of
the data.

Thanks
Barry
