Outlook 2000 slow

Recently I've noticed that when I double click on an email in my inbox it
takes a good 10-15 seconds to open the email. And these emails don't have
attachments either. What would cause it to be so slow all of a sudden?

It can be several things but you would need to provide more information
first. Are you using POP3 mail and a PST? Do you connect to an Exchange
server for mail (this normally found in a business environment). Did this
work before?

Yes I am using POP3 and a PST file. I tried compressing the PST file but that
didn't change anything.
No I do not connect to an exchange server. It worked fine and was always
quick to open but just lately I've noticed it's been really slow.

What changed in your configuration between Outlook running fast and now
performing slow? Installed new software?
Does it work fast when you start Outlook in Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

Check the size of your PST, Outlook 2000 has a limit before it will bog down
or even corrupt.
Also do you have fax software, synch software (for use with a handheld),
desktop search tools, any COMs or Add Ins that might interfere?
Are you scanning incoming/outgoing mail with your antivirus software?
Disable that feature, it won't compromise security since your real time
scanner will catch anything.
