Outlook 2000 takes 3 minutes 10 seconds to open

I have Office 2000 premium on a fast Windows XP machine with 512Mb RAM.
When I open Outlook it takes over 3 minutes to start. Tried reinstall,
tried repair, tried deleting the .pst file and loading a very small one (old
one was 72Mb, new one 212kB), tried turning off email virus scan - nothing
will speed it up.

Any idea what is wrong?

Tried renaming outcmd.dat but it did not help.

I did not say before but I have the same problem opening outlook from the
other account on the computer so it is more likely to be a common file than
a user specific one like outcmd.dat which I found in C:\Documents and
Settings\Lorne\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

FYI outlook created a new file 1Kb in size - the old one was 3Kb. Also I
can't use the customize feature to change the look of the outlook today
page - do not know if that is relevant.

Does any of this help anyone think of something else?

| || Close Outlook - then find and rename the outcmd.dat file to .old.
|| Reopen Outlook and it should be a lot snappier.
